“For the last 15 years I have had NOSA a non-curable form of sleep apnea. When I went in to receive the results of my latest sleep study my Doctor sat me down and asked me how I could be cured of an incurable disease. I told her I have been taking herbs and botanicals that have been used for thousands of years. Her mouth dropped open. For the last year I have been taking Balanceted BEING, I feel great! Thanks Sean” G.D
My Mom's PET Scan is Negative. I want to say thank you for your love and support and friendship. For the Balance that you so generously made and gave to me for my Mom. I love you guys with all my heart and I'll always remain grateful to the both of you. May the good Lord always Bless you two . PS
"This has now happened twice, both times due to travel. I went four days with out Balance because I knew I wouldn't finish the bottle and didn't want to waste it. A year ago my doctor switched me from Effexor to cymbalta because it helps with chronic pain. Well it is no good with out Balance. I came back fighting tears and feelings of impending doom. Terrible!!! This does not happen when I'm on it." C. L.
"I have to tell you that I've had a sinus infection for a few days with horrible headaches. Kicked up the Balance to four ounces and I'm already feeling better with no headaches. Didn't take anything other than a few more ounces of Balance." MS
When I picked up my son (age four) from his Dad’s house with the flu, he said “I want my blanky and my Balance”. It amazes me how kids know what is good for them. Launa K.
My son Christopher has a severe learning disability. As a result, his most common grade is a D. Christopher has severe allergic reactions to medications. He is also allergic to many of the holistic supplements as well. Being a social worker and having a significant other who is a Chiropractor, we have had no shortage of resources in trying to deal with his challenges. I knew immediately that Balance was the answer because of the ingredients. After Balance Christopher is getting A’s on his report card and on all his tests. He loves it and says he cannot believe the difference it has made in his life. Angela H.
My 16-year-old daughter has had a focusing issue for as long as I can remember! Many times, over the years it was suggested to me that she should be on drugs. I refused to numb her mind. Over the years I sought out holistic approaches – Bach Rescue Remedy, a natural product you drink called “Calm” and a few others that were similar. All of these gave some relief in the sense that they alleviated her anxiety and some of the inner tension. However, it did not help with the focusing issue itself. I would always have to take the battery out of the kitchen clock and spend the first ½ hour after school getting her to relax. When Balance came along two years’ ago, I began giving her an ounce each morning. Slowly over time, my fiancé and I watched and noticed a natural calmness in her. Now she can do her homework with the TV, radio and people talking all at once. Of course, she’d prefer it be quieter, but the battery has not come out of the clock in a long time. She was always a great student, but since she began taking Balance she now ranks 10th in her class. When they say Balanceis “body, mind and spirit”, they’re not kidding! Her mind functions so much better! Lisa I.
My daughter has always been an A student with an occasional B. After Balance her report card is A and mostly A+. She knows the difference it has made, and she eagerly pours it for herself every morning. JF
My mom is 91 years old and suffers from Alzheimer’s, dementia, high blood pressure, diabetes, and many other challenges. Almost immediately I noticed a difference in my mom’s cognitive ability. Within a few days her blood sugars normalized. After six months she has gone from 21 medications to 15 and is in a completely different state of health. Dina M.
My mind is always in a fog bank, and I can not focus. Within a week of taking Balance I started to remember everyone’s name that lived in the neighborhood I grew up in, something I had previously been unable to do. I also noticed a calmness, a lack of anxiety, and the ability to focus again. W F

Stephen Harrod Buhner, the champion herbalist of the Lyme world, has called Japanese knotweed the most important herb for Lyme infection, though he has also said that about more than one herb. This isn’t the contradiction that it appears to be: different herbs are better for different people and their individual situations. Japanese knotweed is a good example of a useful “weed,” like dandelion, which was brought deliberately to the New World by European settlers as an important spring food, high in minerals and vitamins, and providing a bodily “spring cleaning” after a winter of eating a dried, storable, relatively low nutrient diet intended more for basic survival through winter than to promote the fine functions of vital life. We tend to forget that things like multivitamins and grocery stores that have fresh food year round didn’t always exist and that for a good part of human history, meeting basic nutrient requirements was not easy. Having a prolific little plant- high in nutrients and requiring no more effort to consume than picking it and eating it, pop up in the spring all by itself, contributed significantly to human health where it was available. No wonder earlier people brought it with them across an ocean and that it grows naturally in our yards and around our homes—this used to be part of why it was so well loved. All “weeds” have a purpose—they are filling some niche in the ecosystem or they wouldn’t be present, because there wouldn’t be any space for them to grow. Japanese knotweed, a tall and fast growing bamboo-like shrub with beautiful cream colored sprays of flowers, was brought to North America as an ornamental. The sprouts in the spring are bright pink and can be picked and eaten like asparagus. The medicine for Lyme disease is made from the rhizome, a root-like structure that, in this plant, spreads so quickly and prolifically that it’s difficult to eradicate once it has taken hold. It often grows by waterways and even a small piece of the rhizome that breaks off can travel downstream and root where it lands, creating a new colony that is a genetic clone of the first one. So, no one can say that there isn’t a lot of medicine available to treat our Lyme disease epidemic! Japanese knotweed is broadly antimicrobial, including against spirochetes and Bartonella. It increases blood flow to areas that are often otherwise protective harbors for bacteria: the eyes, heart, joints, and skin, improving the immune reaction and medicine delivery to those areas and treating local symptoms. It’s anti-inflammatory, that contains a high amount of resveratrol, the same compound researchers claim is the main antioxidant in red wine, and its compounds are able to get through the blood brain barrier. It decreases autoimmune activity, while also increasing appropriate immune response. It decreases Herxheimer reactions by blocking endotoxins and supporting the liver and detox pathways. Japanese knotweed is also anti-fungal, anti-coagulant, anti-cancer, lowers cholesterol, and was used historically to treat severe burns. It has hundreds of scientific papers proving these and other uses. While it can be sad to watch native flora replaced by new “invasives,” there may be a deep rationale to it, and whether there is or not, it’s something that is happening, so it’s wise and practical to both embrace the new plants and landscapes and protect the national parks and other islands of the old flora. If our “weeds” are generally as useful as this one, it’s hard to complain. Most of the information in this post was learned from Stephen Harrod Buhner, one of the most advanced herbalists of our era and one of the most generous with his time and knowledge. I strongly recommend both his more Western science based books, like Healing Lyme, Herbal Antibiotics, etc.
JAPANESE KNOTWEED ROOT Japanese Knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum) has a wide range of actions. It is a long list, but worth citing here: antibacterial, antiviral, antischistosomal, antispirochetal, antifungal, immunostimulant, immunomodulant, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiatherosclerotic, antihyperlipidemic, antimutagenic, anticarcinogenic, antineoplastic, vasodilator, inhibits platelet aggregation, inhibits eicosanoid synthesis, antithrombotic, tyrosine kinase inhibitor, oncogene inhibitor, antipyretic, cardioprotective, analgesic, antiulcer (slightly reduces stomach acid and protects against stress ulcers), hemostatic, and astringent. A broadly systemic plant, Japanese Knotweed Root modulates and enhances immune function, is anti-inflammatory for both arthritic and bacterial inflammations, protects the body against endotoxin damage, and is a potently strong angiogenesis modulator, highly protective of the endothelia of the body. Its constituents cross the blood-brain barrier where they exert actions on the central nervous system: antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, as protectants against oxidative and microbial damage. It is highly specific for bartonella infections and good, but of less importance, in mycoplasma infections. Japanese Knotweed Root is a very strong inhibitor of cytokine cascades initiated by bacteria. During Lyme infection, for instance, there is a spirochete-stimulated release of a number of matrix metalloptroteinases (MMPs) which occurs through a particular grouping of pathways. While there are a number of herbs that can reduce autoinflammatory conditions stimulated by MMP-1 and MMP-3 (for example Curcumin), the only herb that specifically blocks MMP-1 and MMP-3 induction through three particular pathways is Japanese Knotweed Root. Japanese Knotweed Root enhances blood flow, especially to the eyes, heart, skin, and joints. This makes it especially useful in Lyme and its coinfections as it facilitates blood flow to the areas that are difficult to reach to kill the organisms. The plant’s compounds easily move across the gastrointestinal mucosa and circulate in the bloodstream. Japanese Knotweed Root is an angiogenesis modulator, stimulating the formation of new blood vessels and the healing of damaged ones in areas such as burned skin, but also stops the development of new vessels and blood flow in areas where it should not occur, such as in malignant and benign tumor formation. It maintains the blood vessels themselves and as part of this action, has specific modulating and protectant actions on the endothelial cells that line the blood vessels. For further study on Lyme Disease coinfections, consider reading Stephen Buhner’s informative books
Cat's claw vine, known scientifically as Uncaria tomentosa, is a tropical vine native to the Amazon rainforest and other Central and South American regions. Its vines climb as high as 100 feet high using hook-like thorns that look like a cat's claw, which give the plant its name. Traditionally, cat's claw uses are vast. It is believed to support good health, relieve a variety of medical conditions, and even treat specific diseases. However, only some of these cat's claw benefits are supported by scientific evidence. For hundreds of years, Amazon tribes have had uses for cat's claw as medicine by extracting phytochemicals from the roots and bark of the cat's claw vine. The most common method of extraction was a simple boiling technique that resulted in a tea. The anti-aging phytonutrients provided by the cat's claw plant may have supported health and unusual longevity in these Amazonian tribes despite their inadequate diet. For these reasons, scientific researchers traveled to the Amazon to study cat's claw, which eventually led to its commercial sale worldwide. Cat's claw vitamin supplements are now widely available in capsules, powders, teas, and liquid extracts. There are several varieties of cat's claw, but the two most commonly used in dietary supplements are Uncaria tomentosa and Uncaria guianensis.[1]
Cats Claw Benefits
Cat's claw has become popular as an herbal supplement because of many health claims, however only the health benefits below have scientific support for the use of cat's claw herb.
Boosting your Imune System
sting Your Immune SystemSeveral studies have shown that cat's claw may have the potential to increase your quantity of white blood cells [2] and therefore boost your immune system response to fight infections and viruses. One of these studies was done in 27 men with a daily dose of 700 mg of cat's claw extract per day for two months.
Other studies suggest it has an anti-inflammatory effect, which may help to regulate the immune system, keeping it from overreacting.[3]
Relieving Symptoms of Osteoarthritis
The CDC estimates 1 in 4 American adults suffers from some degree of Osteoarthritis, making it the most common joint condition in the Country. Typical symptoms are stiff joints and painful joints, making movement more difficult.[4]
Studies indicate Cat's claw extract may suppress inflammation, which leads to reduced pain and stiffness during physical activity. [5,6] One study indicated participants needed less prescription pain medication while taking cat's claw.[7]
The lowest effective dose seems to be 100 mg per day of cat's claw extract according to the studies.
Relieving Symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition that results in swollen, painful joints that often feel warm.
As with osteoarthritis, clinical trials indicate cat's claw can help relieve symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis due to its anti-inflammatory effects. The smallest dose used in the studies was 60 mg of cat's claw extract per day alongside participants' standard prescription medication.
The consensus of the medical community is that more studies need to be carried out to make definitive conclusions.
Relief of Digestive Conditions like Crohn's Disease
Given its anti-inflammatory impact, there are potential benefits of cat's claw for people suffering from inflammation-related digestive conditions like Crohn's disease. A dose of 250 mg per day is recommended to naturally calm inflammation and improve Crohn's symptoms.
The same anti-inflammatory effect could ease symptoms for a variety of digestive conditions including IBS, colitis, leaky gut syndrome, gastritis, and diverticulitis.
Supports Healthy Aging Through DNA Repair
Specific extracts of cat's claw may help support DNA repair. The health of our cells, specifically repairing our DNA from daily damage, is believed to be a key factor in slowing down aging.
All cells and their internal DNA are constantly under attack by environmental factors such as ultraviolet radiation from the sun, electromagnetic radiation from our devices, pollutants in the air, water, and processed foods.[8] For example, cancer and other serious diseases have been associated with DNA and cell damage due to these factors.
Our cells protect DNA from damage with antioxidants and respond to damaged cells by either repairing them or by eliminating them through a process called apoptosis. Eventually, cellular DNA damage outpaces the body's ability to repair it, and that leads to the physical signs of aging and decreased quality of life we all experience as we age. Studies suggest a dosage of 350 mg per day up to 700 mg.
Cat's Claw for Cancer Treatment
The same cellular DNA repair effects that support healthy aging may reduce the risk of cancer.
In addition, it may help kill or slow the growth of tumor and cancer cells. Studies have shown cat's claw extract had antimutagenic and antiproliferative effects on the human breast cancer cell line MCF7.[9]
Another study published in The British Journal of Haematology indicates it may help the body fight against leukemia by slowing cancer cell replication and inducing apoptosis.
Lowers Blood Pressure
Animal studies show cat's claw may lower blood pressure by impacting calcium channels in your cells.[10] Other studies indicate it acts on blood pressure by dilating blood vessels. But if you already take medication for hypertension, taking cat's claw may cause your blood pressure to be too low.
How does Cat's Claw work?
Unique plant chemicals inside cat's claw's are thought to be responsible for the myriad of scientifically-supported health benefits. There are over 30 known plant chemicals with medicinal benefits, including flavonoids, sterol fractions, tannins, glycosides, oleanic acid, epicatechin, quinic acid, and carboxy alkyl esters.
The unique phytochemicals most commonly cited are listed below.
Cat's Claw Dosing
Dosing of cat's claw depends on the quality and potency of the extract you are taking, the type of cat's claw used for the extract, and the benefit you are seeking. Below is a list of cat's claw dosages suggested by research (including the extract-specific information where available) correlated to specific benefits: Immune system boost: 700 mg per day cat's claw extract [11]
Cat's Claw Side Effects,Safety, and Toxicity
Cat's claw side effects are rare, although there is insufficient information available to determine the herbal's overall safety when supplemented.
Nausea, upset stomach, and diarrhea have been reported with the consumption of large amounts. Scientists believe the high tannin levels in some versions of cat's claw extract are responsible.[15]
In addition, several cat's claw extracts contain alkaloids (nitrogenous organic compounds) that can be toxic to humans. Severe alkaloid consumption can be poisonous, causing conditions including liver damage. For this reason, people should ask the manufacturer of the cat's claw brand they are using for a statement on alkaloid content.
As a general precaution, I recommend women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and people with specific medical conditions (including abnormal blood pressure, bleeding disorders, kidney disease, and leukemia) avoid cat's claw supplementation.
Cat's claw may also interfere with certain medications, such as those for cholesterol, blood clotting, and blood pressure.[16]
